Symposium Overview

Presenters will discuss research and policy initiatives that will include the 2013 FERC Rule 779 on Geomagnetic Disturbance, the new Shield Act (HR2417); the June 2013 Maine Law on grid protection and similar work underway in other states; the DoD sponsored research at Idaho National Laboratory on GMD impacts on power grids; FBI initiatives on cyber security including i-Guardian and their sector chiefs program; DHS cyber initiatives and education programs; and related technical presentations on topics including micro-grids, communications and data centers from industry and government leaders.

Distinguished Presenters

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R), Maryland co-author of the authorizing legislation for the Congressional EMP Commission will lead a congressional panel discussing current legislation under development. Honorable Robert James Woolsey, Jr. is a lawyer by training and trade, his service included leadership as Director of Central Intelligence and head of the Central Intelligence Agency; Under Secretary of the Navy, and, private sector firms providing management consulting and venture capital.

Dr. Paul N. Stockton is Managing Director for Sonecon, LLC, and President of its Cloud Peak Analytics division. Dr. Stockton recently served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Americas' Security Affairs, or ASD (HD&ASA), responsible for Defense Critical Infrastructure Protection.
