Title: Surrounded by “Internet of Things” -- Are You Secure?

Abstract: Advances in technology have led to the creation of intelligent and connected devices -- Internet of Things (IoTs) -- that can sense and act upon the environment. In not-so-distant future, IoTs will be pervasive in all aspects of human life such as: home, education, healthcare, and commerce. Since IoTs will access and act upon physical and digital reality surrounding humans, their security and privacy is of prime importance. A lack of appropriate security in IoTs can lead to grave outcomes including physical harm to humans. It is crucial that we study the IoT architectures and technologies to uncover the security flaws.

Authors extensively researched the various architectural models (peer-to-peer and client-server models) used by IoTs such as: Connected Home Devices (smart TVs, gaming consoles, toys) and Sensor devices (monitoring cameras, motion detectors). Authors also reviewed their security patterns and identified flaws in design, implementation and communication models.

In this talk , attendees (engineers, project managers) will learn the common security flaws in IoTs and how they can be addressed to improve the design and architecture of their products.
