James Elste, former Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the State of Nevada, will discuss improving information sharing in cyber security. He will elaborate on a new initiative, the Cyber-Defense Alliance, and use the Stuxnet attack to illustrate how information-sharing is critical to an effective response to a cyber-attack.
Ira Victor, President of the InfraGard Sierra Nevada Members Alliance, will talk about the Computer for Kids program, which was created by the Reno Cigar Lion's Club. This program takes retired, donated PCs, and refurbishes them with the Linux Operating System. Low-income students in the Truckee Meadows are given the computers after a training session that focuses on security and privacy concerns, along with why using open-source software is better than using pirated software.
